Commission Only. You Build Your Own Pipeline.
Position Xero is a founder-led performance marketing agency, founded and still led by Ronnie James Botes and Keegan Shane Haumann. We run Google Ads, Meta Ads, lead generation, SEO and conversion-focused web design. The agency is run from South Africa and every engagement is delivered remotely to service businesses worldwide. There is already a closing team here, and this role adds to it.
Start with the part most job ads bury. This role is commission-based with uncapped earnings and no base. That suits a closer who fills their own diary. Anyone who needs a guaranteed number every month should stop reading here, and we would rather you decide that now than three calls in. The structure is walked through openly on the first call.
Now the part that decides whether you should apply at all. This is a cold outreach and closing role. You build your own pipeline: cold calling, and cold outreach over LinkedIn and DM. Nobody hands you a booked diary. If that sentence just cost us your application, it did its job.
Warm leads exist here, and they are earned. The free audit funnel on this site takes a prospect through questions about their business and, where SEO is the focus, hands them a graded report card on their own website. Those people have raised their hand and seen something specific and unflattering about their own setup, so they are the best conversations we have. They get allocated to closers who have already proved they can close. Prove it on the pipeline you built yourself and the allocation follows. Plan on it as upside.
The selling style is diagnosis first, close second. Our about page says publicly that we don't take on clients we can't help, and that we'd rather refer someone to the right specialist than take a retainer and deliver mediocre results. That line still applies once you are live on a call. It is also the only approach that works commercially here: everything is month-to-month with no lock-in, so anyone who gets oversold cancels at the end of the billing month and the commission leaves with them.
So the standard is simple. We are growing the closing side of the business, and we measure this role on what stays. Good here looks like fewer, better-qualified clients who are still with us in month six.
What You'll Actually Do
Concrete work, written out. This is what a week in the role is made of.
Build Your Own Pipeline From Cold
Cold calling, and cold outreach over LinkedIn and DM. You find the businesses, open the conversation and book the call yourself. Warm inbound from the free audit funnel goes to closers who have already proved they can close, so you earn your way to it.
Diagnose Before You Pitch
Ask what they spend now, what a lead currently costs them, what their close rate is, and how much extra work they can genuinely take on. A contractor who can't service forty more jobs a month does not need forty more leads, and saying so early is the job. Where the call came out of the audit funnel, you open with what that report found.
Match the Prospect to the Right Service
Google Ads or Meta Ads, lead generation, SEO and AI SEO, web design, or a combination. Our pricing is published at pricing.md, so you sell against a number the prospect can already see.
Close Month-to-Month Retainers
No annual contracts, no lock-in, no cancellation fee. You close on the strength of the plan and the diagnosis. The how we work page spells out the terms you will be selling, in the same words the client reads.
Say No Out Loud
When someone isn't a fit (wrong budget, wrong stage, wrong problem), tell them plainly and point them somewhere better. Turning down revenue is part of this job. The FAQ already answers most of the pricing and contract questions you'll be asked.
Run Your Own CRM and Follow-Up
Log every call, keep the pipeline current, and run your own written follow-up. This is discipline you bring with you, and on a self-sourced pipeline the follow-up is where most of the money is.
What We're Looking For
Every item here is something we can check in a 30-minute call or a short practical session. Anything we can't check sits on the nice-to-have list instead.
The bar for this role. Sourcing and closing, both done by you.
- You can self-source. Cold calling, and cold outreach over LinkedIn and DM, run by you. If every deal you have closed arrived in a diary somebody else filled, this will be a hard landing.
- You have personally closed B2B service or retainer deals on video calls. Pure appointment setting is a different job.
- You sell consultatively and can show it: you ask about current cost per lead, close rate and capacity before you talk about price.
- Clear, plain-spoken English, written and spoken. You'll be on calls with owner-operators (roofing, HVAC and plumbing contractors, attorneys, agency owners) and following up in writing afterwards.
- You're comfortable being paid on commission with uncapped earnings and no base.
- You can tell a prospect they aren't a fit and walk away from the revenue.
- CRM and follow-up discipline you run yourself, without being chased for it.
- You can hold your own activity standard on a week where nothing lands. Cold pipelines are lumpy and this role is paid on outcomes.
- Meaningful overlap with United States and South African business hours. Where you live is up to you. When you're reachable is set by the clients.
Nice to Have
None of these are dealbreakers. Apply without them.
Useful, and not required. These shorten the ramp, nothing more.
- You've sold marketing, SEO or advertising services specifically.
- You understand what cost per lead, cost per acquisition and return on ad spend mean well enough to talk credibly about them without overpromising.
- You've sold month-to-month rather than annual contracts before.
- Exposure to the United States market, the South African market, or both.
- Experience selling to home-services or legal businesses.
How This Role Works
The terms, stated plainly, before you spend time on an application.
Where the pipeline comes from. You build it. Cold calling, and cold outreach over LinkedIn and DM. Warm inbound from the free audit funnel is allocated to closers who have proved they can close, so plan on it as upside.
Fully remote, anywhere in the world. This role is 100% remote. Position Xero is run from South Africa and all client work is already delivered remotely, so remote is simply how the agency operates. We are open to applicants anywhere in the world.
Hours. Client work runs across United States and South African business days. We need meaningful overlap with those hours, and the exact schedule is agreed with you.
Employment type. Commission-based contract with uncapped earnings.
Pay. Commission-based with uncapped earnings and no base. The structure is walked through on the first call. We're not publishing a figure here because the honest version of that conversation happens live, with the pipeline and the retainer sizes in front of us both.
Who you work with. Position Xero is founder-led. Ronnie James Botes and Keegan Shane Haumann built the agency, still run it, and are reachable directly. You join a closing team that is already selling.
The hiring process. You apply through the form on this page, a person here reads it, and if it looks like a fit we set up a call. The full steps are laid out on the careers page.
